A group of immigration detainees filed a group habeas petition. The court sua sponte severed the claims of petitioners detained at Lasalle ICE Processing Center (LIPC) from the claims of Ache and fellow petitioners detained at Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center (PPIPC). Ache and all petitioners alleged "that they [were] highly vulnerable to serious injury or death if they contract[ed] COVID-19" and sought "immediate release from detention due to their underlying medical conditions." In addition, "[t]hey further assert[ed] that conditions and treatment at PPIPC and LIPC [had] created dangerous situations that threaten[ed] their lives, as well as the well-being of staff, others in the surrounding community, and the general public." The court severed the claims because "[w]hile the claims of these two groups involve[d] similar factual circumstances, they involve[d] conduct by different defendants, at different correctional facilities." The claims of the petitioners detained at LIPC were therefore severed and transferred to the Alexandria Division of the court.
